This new structure designed after modern lines of architecture, that houses all judicial offices in Ilocos Norte. One of its unique compartment which is reserved for antiquity is the cell of the 6th President Ferdinand E. Marcos. It is a small cubicle where Pres. Marcos was confined when he was figured as a character in a judicial case sometime in 1930.
At the entrance of the building there is a plaque which reads "Crossroads for a President". In this cell, Pres. Marcos spent a brief but grim period of his life as a young law graduate. He was held here in 1939, unjustly convicted for murder.
Serene in the knowledge that he was innocent of the charged against him, he reviewed for the bar examination and prepared his own defense before the Supreme Court, where his appeal was soon to be heard. Luckily, the young Marcos topped the Bar examination.
In making this cell as a historical place, it might also be remembered that here perhaps Pres. Marcos reached a crossroad in his life. From the soul-searching experience within its confines, he went on to become a hero in war and a dedicated national leader in peace. Finally, receiving full justification of his life from the Divine Providence and his people, when he was elected President of the Philippines in 1965. |
